FORT WORTH, Texas – Forty of the nation's most accomplished collegiate golfers across all levels have been named to the watch list for the 2024 Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank. The joint announcement was made by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
One of the golfers on that list is UT Permian Basin men's golfer
Sangha Park. In the fall
Park was a golfer on a mission, leading to him resetting the 18-hole school record twice – current school record is 62 (-10), which Park accomplished at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.
Park also broke his own school record for tournament wins in a single season, at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate as he earned a school record third win of the season. The success Park had in the fall, resulted in Park being ranked the No. 1 golfer in the country in Division II and
helped the men's team be ranked fifth in the region and 11th nationally. Park also was awarded
SwingU College Player of the Fall and won multiple Lone Star Conference Golfer of the week honors during the fall season.
Additionally, Park ended 2023 competing at the
Thunderbolt Invitational where he finished with a 3-under-par score of 213, which earned him second among Division II golfers.
"It is a honor to be named to this list," said Park. "I got lucky the PGA Tour changed the Division II status for the year. So this award means more, but I'm not going to think about winning this award. This just proves what I doing is working and I'm going to continue to keep working on what im doing."
The Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank annually awards the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months.
The list includes 21 seniors, nine juniors, four sophomores and six freshmen.
This year's list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the watch list, will be unveiled Friday, April 19. That group will be pared down to three finalists on Thursday, May 2. The finalists will attend a black-tie dinner Monday, May 20, at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where the winner will be crowned.
The Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002. Prior to its move to Fort Worth, the original Ben Hogan Trophy, which was awarded based on a different list of criteria, was issued at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles beginning in 1990.
Recipients of the Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank have combined to accumulate 85 worldwide victories, including 64 PGA TOUR wins, and have amassed more than $395 million in prize money on the PGA TOUR. Additionally, the group has appeared in 17 Ryder Cups and a dozen Presidents Cups.
