Park finishes second overall among Division II golfers at Thunderbolt Invitational

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Before 2023 came to an end men's golfer Sangha Park was back on the course, competing in the Thunderbolt Invitational in Surprise, Arizona – Dec. 29 – 31- at the Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club.

Park had a strong outing on the final day of the tournament – sinking five birdies – leading to him finishing the tournament with a 3-under-par score of 213.

In round one (Dec. 29) Park had a solid outing on the back nine, recording two birdies on hole 11 and 13 to finish two under par. On the front nine, Park ran into some trouble early on with hole 1 (bogey) and 2 (double bogey). But, got back on track sinking back-to-back birdies on hole 3 and 4. Park also sank a birdie on hole 7 and bogeyed on hole 9 - leading to him finishing round one with a 1-under-par score of 71.

Par for the course is 72.

The next day (Dec. 30), Park wasn't able to duplicate his success on the back nine – finishing with a total score of par, after bogeying hole 15 and sinking a birdie on hole 18. Park recorded two more bogey's on hole 2 and 6. However, similar to day one he would once again finish on a strong note sinking birdies on hole 7 and hole 9. Park finished round two even par.

Park had his best day of golf on the final day (Dec. 31), where he would finish round three with a 2-under-par score of 70. Similar to day one, Park excelled on the back nine, sinking four birdies on hole 12, 13, 15 & 18, putting him at 4-under-par. Park would drop to 2-under-par after double bogeying hole five. Then moved up to three-under-par right away, sinking a birdie hole 6. On his final hole of the tournament – hole 9 – Park bogeyed, putting him at 2-under-par.

Overall Park had 13 birdies over the 54 holes of the tournament.

Missouri University of Science and Technology Carl Miltun, was the top finisher for Division II golfers, finishing with a 5-under-par score of 211.

The Thunderbolt field consisted of players that are currently enrolled at a college or university that is ranked between 200 and 400 in the World Amateur Golf rankings, earned second-, third- or honorable mention All-America honors from PING or were American Junior Golf Association second-team or honorable mention All-America selections.
