UT Permian Basin football made its living on the ground Saturday afternoon, rushing for a season-best 373 rushing yards in a 42-7 neutral site win over Quincy at Red Robertson Stadium in Miami, Okla.
Brandon Infiesto averaged over 10 yards a carry on the day, leading the Falcons with 175 yards on 18 carries and a pair of touchdowns, the first that came on just the second play of the day on a 66-yard rush for an early 7-0 lead.
The Falcons went for the surprise onside kick after the score, and after Quincy recovered the attempt, the Hawks went seven plays and 44 yard down the field for a 7-yard QB keeper by Andrew Rundto tie the game.
What looked to be turning into a shootout didn't materialize as the Falcons kept Quincy scoreless the remainder of the game while adding 16 points to its total in the second quarter, as
Bailey Giffen connected on first a 55-yard FG followed by one from 40 yards out for a 13-7 advantage.
Kameron Mathis kept the ball up the middle from the 1-yard line to score with 3:23 remaining in the first half, and Giffen hit his third field goal of the quarter and second from at least 50 yards out as time expired in the first half for the 23-7 halftime lead.
UTPB scored three more times in the second half, the first coming on its first possession of the second half when
Marquis Simmons broke through the line for a 1-yard rush at 10:19 in the third.
Infiesto scored his second of the afternoon late in the third quarter, rushing in from 14-yard out to finish off a nine play, 92 yard drive that featured a 17-yard run by
Jordan Williams on 3-9, and a 45 yard pass by
Marquee Allison down the UTPB sideline across the field into Quincy territory.
The Falcons tossed their only passing touchdown of the game when
Kristian Brown got behind the Quincy secondary in front of the UTPB bench and tiptoed down the UTPB sideline for a 59 yard score.
Simmons averaged 9.2 yards per carry, rushing for 112 yards on 12 carries while Williams rushed for 56 yards on 14 attempts.
Mathis ended the afternoon 7-15 for 159 yards with the score, and ran for 25 yards on eight carries.
The UTPB defense stepped up big all day, forcing a pair of turnovers in Falcon territory.
Ryan Baker stripped Rund after a 14-yard run to the Falcon eight yard line that
Chris Hoad fell on to give UTPB the ball. Hoad later forced a fumble after a first down run to the UTPB 28 that
Alex Parsons recovered, and on the next QU possession after a Falcon fumble,
Kris Sutton tackled Trey Mosley for a two yard loss and knocked the ball loose where
Jacob Granado gave the Falcons possession at the Quincy 31.

Diameon Brewer and Hoad each led the Falcons with seven tackles on the day. The Falcons racked up eight total tackles-for-loss, and had a sack each by
John O'Kelley and Loan Gilliam.
UTPB is back in the Permian Basin next weekend, hosting Midwestern State at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Grande Stadium in Midland. Saturday's game is a Pink Out presented by Midland Memorial Hospital. All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
