Paige Bott of the Falcons' women's tennis team have been named to the Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, for the 2024-25 season.
Jonas Krahofer holds a 3.96 cumulative grade point average as an exercise science major. Krahofer was named First-Team All-Lone Star Conference in doubles this season with
Jonathan Vega. Krahofer went 12-5 overall in singles this season (3-1 at No. 2 singles; 5-0 at No. 4 singles; 4-4 at No. 5 singles) and was 13-3 in doubles matches. He went a combined 12-3 in doubles with Vega as the pair was also 11-3 at No. 1 doubles. In the LSC, Krahofer was 4-3 in singles (3-3 at No. 5 singles) and was 6-2 at No. 1 doubles with Vega. Krahofer and
Takumi Katsuda won the 2023 ITA South Central Regional Doubles Championship, went on to finish 2-1 at the ITA Cup while beating the No. 1 seed in their final match of the tournament, and had a high doubles ranking of No. 1 in the South Central Region and No. 7 in the nation. At the 2024 ITA South Central Regional Championships this past Fall, Krahofer advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singles Flight A Back Draw while he and
Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez Ibanez were seeded No. 3 and advanced to the semifinals of the Doubles Flight A Main Draw. This Spring season, Krahofer was 4-0 to start the season, going 2-0 in both singles and doubles, including 6-1, 6-1 over the No. 39-ranked singles player in the NAIA in a 6-1 win over Arizona Christian University (ranked No. 22 in the NAIA). Krahofer was named the UTPB Men's Student-Athlete of the Month for February after going a combined 9-1 (5-0 doubles; 4-1 singles) during the first month of the season. In a big 4-3 victory over No. 38 Cameron University, the second win in program history for UTPB over Cameron, Krahofer and Vega won 6-1 over the No. 26 nationally-ranked duo at No. 1 doubles before Krahofer rolled to a big 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles to clinch the match. Then in a 5-2 win over No. 15 nationally-ranked Midwestern State University, the first regular-season win in program history over the Mustangs, Krahofer and Vega defeated the No. 19 nationally-ranked doubles pair 6-3 at No. 1 doubles while Krahofer added a comeback win in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-8), at No. 5 singles. This Spring, Krahofer and Vega have been ranked as high as No. 18 in the nation in doubles, and are currently ranked at No. 30. Krahofer was named to the 2023-24 Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team and was an ITA Scholar-Athlete. He also made the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Fall 2024, each time with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Lucas Nitzschke is a management major with a 3.71 GPA. Nitzschke went 10-5 overall in singles this season (6-1 at No. 5 singles; 4-4 at No. 6 singles) and was 12-4 in doubles. Nitzschke and his primary doubles partner,
Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez Ibanez, went 10-3 overall and were 9-3 at No. 3 doubles. In the LSC, Nitzschke went 6-2 in singles (5-2 at No. 6 singles) and was 5-2 at No. 3 doubles with Gonzalez Ibanez. During his freshman season, Nitzschke and
Vitaliy Horovoy made it to the semifinals at the 2023 ITA Regional tournament, resulting in them being ranked as the No. 4 doubles team in the South Central Region. Then that Spring season in 2024, Nitzschke and
Takumi Katsuda earned Honorable Mention All-LSC honors for doubles while Nitzschke was also named to the LSC All-Tournament Team. Nitzschke finished the season with a 26-8 doubles record. At the 2024 ITA South Central Regional Championships this past Fall, Nitzschke advanced to the round of 16 in the Singles Main Draw and teamed up with
Jonathan Vega to advance to the semifinals of the Doubles Back Draw, resulting in Nitzschke being ranked No. 11 in singles and Nitzschke and Vega being named No. 10 in doubles in the South Central Region. It was his second Fall season in a row being regionally-ranked in doubles. Nitzschke also made the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Fall 2024 (4.0 GPA), and was a 2024 ITA Scholar-Athlete.
Krahofer and Nitzschke helped the Falcons' men's tennis team finish the 2023-24 season with a 20-5 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Lone Star Conference while tying for first place in the Lone Star Conference in the regular season and advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Brooke Runyan is a biology major who holds a 3.92 GPA. Runyan is the captain and leader of the team, and was named Honorable Mention All-LSC for doubles this season with
Paige Bott. In addition, Runyan was also named to the Sportsmanship Team and to the All-Academic Team. She was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week in 2023 and is a two-team team captain. She was 5-10 at No. 1 singles this season and was 9-6 in doubles. She was a combined 8-2 in doubles with Bott as the pair went 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. In the LSC, Runyan was 2-7 at No. 1 singles while she and Bott were 6-2 overall in doubles and were 4-1 at No. 1 doubles. In the Fall of 2023, Runyan captured the individual championship at the St. Mary's Invitational beating Dallas Baptist to win the Flight 1 Singles Championship. Runyan also had a solid outing at the ITA South Central Regional Championships, picking up a win in the consolation round of 32. In 2023, Runyan won over 50 percent of her matches at the number one position. This Spring, Runyan won at No. 1 singles and also teamed with Bott to defeat the No. 24-ranked duo in the NAIA at No. 1 doubles as the Falcons took down the No. 18-ranked team in the NAIA, Our Lady of the Lake University, by a score of 4-2. Runyan also earned a win at both No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles as UTPB defeated Cameron University 5-2 for the first win over the Aggies in program history. Against No. 2 Midwestern State University, Runyan and Bott won 7-5 over the No. 13 nationally-ranked doubles pair in NCAA Division II at No. 1 doubles. At No. 25 The University of Texas at Tyler, Runyan and Bott earned a 6-4 upset win over the No. 17 nationally-ranked doubles pair at No. 1 doubles, their second win over a nationally-ranked doubles opponent this season. UTPB's lone win of the day in the season-finale at No. 34 Dallas Baptist University was a 6-4 win by Runyan and Bott at No. 1 doubles over the No. 6-ranked doubles pair in the South Central Region from the Fall season. Runyan has been named to the Lone Star Conference Preseason Players to Watch list in both 2024 and 2025, and was ranked No. 20 in singles in the South Central Region following the Fall 2024 season. She has been an ITA Scholar-Athlete each year, and has made the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in Spring 2023 (4.0 GPA), Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Fall 2024 (4.0 GPA).
Teodora Vrucan is a psychology major with a 3.97 GPA. Vrucan was 9-7 overall in singles this season (3-0 at No. 2 singles; 6-7 at No. 3 singles) and was 10-5 in doubles. She was a combined 7-5 in doubles with her partner,
Tuva Asplund, as the pair went 3-2 at No. 2 doubles and 4-3 at No. 3 doubles. In the LSC, Vrucan was 4-6 overall (3-6 at No. 3 singles) and went 4-4 in doubles with Asplund (2-2 at No. 2 doubles; 2-2 at No. 3 doubles). Vrucan was named Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference in doubles for the 2023-24 season after finishing the regular season with a 14-14 doubles record. At the 2024 ITA South Central Regional Championships this past Fall, Vrucan won her first match to advance to the round of 32 in the Singles Flight A Main Draw and also teamed up with freshman
Sophia Rashid to win the Doubles Flight B Main Draw championship. This Spring season, Vrucan earned a win at both No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles in a 5-4 defeat for the Falcons against No. 19 nationally-ranked Lubbock Christian University. Vrucan was 3-0 in singles during the Falcons' final three home matches of the season, winning 6-0, 6-0 twice at No. 2 singles and once at No. 3 singles in wins against McMurry University, Western New Mexico University and Sul Ross State University. She has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete each year and has been a member of the President Honor's List. She also made the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in Fall 2021 (4.0 GPA), Spring 2022 (4.0 GPA), Fall 2023, Spring 2024 (4.0 GPA), and Fall 2024.
Paige Bott is a communication major with a 3.86 GPA. Bott was named Honorable Mention All-LSC for doubles this season with
Brooke Runyan. Bott finished 8-6 overall in singles this season (2-3 at No. 4 singles; 4-3 at No. 5 singles) and was 10-6 in doubles. She was a combined 8-2 in doubles with Runyan as the pair was 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. In the LSC, Bott was 5-4 overall (4-3 at No. 5 singles) while she and Runyan were 6-2 overall in doubles and were 4-1 at No. 1 doubles. As a freshman at the 2023 ITA South Central Regional Championships, Bott and
Mattea Bowe defeated Midwestern State University to advance to the quarterfinals of the Doubles Consolation Bracket. She was named to the 2024 Lone Star Conference Preseason Players to Watch list, and then after helping lead UTPB to its second-best finish in program history in the Spring of 2024, Bott earned two All-LSC awards, being named to the honorable mention singles and honorable doubles teams. During the 2023-24 season, Bott had a 17-12 singles record and a 16-15 doubles record. At the 2024 ITA South Central Regional Championships this past Fall, the pairing of Bott and Bowe advanced to the round of 16 in the Doubles Flight A Main Draw. This Spring season, Bott teamed with Runyan to defeat the No. 24-ranked duo in the NAIA at No. 1 doubles as the Falcons took down the No. 18-ranked team in the NAIA, Our Lady of the Lake University, by a score of 4-2. Bott also earned a win at both No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles as UTPB defeated Cameron University 5-2 for the first time in program history. Against No. 2 Midwestern State University, Bott earned UTPB's lone singles win with a three-set, comeback win at No. 5 singles, and also teamed up with Runyan to win 7-5 over the No. 13 nationally-ranked doubles pair in NCAA Division II at No. 1 doubles. Against No. 44 St. Mary's University, Bott again picked up UTPB's lone singles win at No. 5 singles and earned a win with Runyan at No. 2 doubles. At No. 25 The University of Texas at Tyler, Bott and Runyan pulled out a 6-4 upset win over the No. 17 nationally-ranked doubles pair at No. 1 doubles, their second win over a nationally-ranked doubles opponent this season. Thanks in large part to Runyan's and Bott's efforts, the Falcons women's tennis team earned the doubles point in six of their 10 conference matches this season. Runyan and Bott were recently ranked No. 50 in the nation in doubles, and have since moved up to No. 36.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and must be a standout in competition. Eligible nominees for tennis must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition (regional competition such as ITAs and non-team scored events do not count).
Krahofer was selected as a CSC Academic All-America® finalist. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 4, 2025.
