ABILENE, Texas (September 17, 2024) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team competed at the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirl Classic over the weekend, playing four lines of doubles and eight lines of singles against three teams. The Cowgirls invited teams from Dallas Baptist, St. Mary's Texas, and UTPB to play in a random draw singles and doubles tournament in Abilene this weekend.

UTPB was 4-0 in doubles and 7-1 in singles against Hardin-Simmons, but had just three more wins in the action against Dallas Baptist and St. Mary's.

Mattea Bowe was the lone UTPB player with a winning record in singles (2-1), with both wins coming in the No. 5 spot against HSU and DBU. UTPB's lone win in singles against Dallas Baptist came from Bowe with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Isabella Quintero.

In doubles, Bowe and Paige Bott were 2-1 at No. 2 doubles, defeating HSU and STMU, while Sophia Rashid and Teodora Vrucan were also 2-1 at No. 4 doubles with wins over HSU and DBU. Bott and Bowe defeated Alessia Terlizzi and Janel Ospanova 8-4 for the Falcons' only win in any match vs. St. Mary's. UTPB's only doubles win against Dallas Baptist came courtesy of Vrucan and Rashid with a 7-5 victory over Sarah Stewart and Andrea Delgado.

The Falcon women have a quick turnaround, beginning the ITA South Central Regional on Thursday, September 19, hosted by Dallas Baptist University at the Arlington Tennis Center.
