UTPB finishes regular season with strong showing at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas (January 18, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up the 2025-26 regular season with a dual meet at McMurry University on Saturday, January 17. The UTPB men's team defeated McMurry 145-59 while the women's team won 137-42.

The UTPB women's team won all 11 events while the men's team won all but two events.

Head Coach Brian Schroeder said, "We just went out and raced today, and had some great swims. Our focus now is getting ready for conference championships."

Leading UTPB with two individual wins on the men's side was Sean Greene with victories in both the 1000 freestyle (10:35.50) and the 100 butterfly (53.30).

Brannan Espericueta won the 100 freestyle (48.36), and also helped UTPB win both the men's 200 medley relay (1:37.31) and the men's 400 freestyle relay (3:12.86).

On the women's side, Nadia Phelps won both the 1000 freestyle (11:50.38) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.88), Avery Momotiuk won both the 200 freestyle (2:10.33) and the 100 backstroke (1:05.06), and Mackenzie Gingerich won both the 50 freestyle (26.52) and the 500 freestyle (5:42.96).

In addition, helping UTPB win both the women's 200 medley relay (1:58.09) and the women's 400 freestyle relay (3:57.52) was Sarahie Barcenas and Ava McCormack.

Next up: UT Permian Basin is off until Feb. 10-14 when the Falcons compete at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. The meet will once again be held in Grand Junction, Colorado.
