MIDLAND, Texas (April 19, 2025) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team hosted its Senior Day on Saturday and came away with a 5-2 win over Western New Mexico University in Lone Star Conference action.

Brooke Runyan defeated Ana Sofia Montero Villegas and Caini Wang 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and senior
Teodora Vrucan and junior
Tuva Asplund defeated Lucia Carmena and Andreea Arnautu 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Runyan def. Arnautu 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Vrucan defeated Wang 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

- With their fourth straight win over the Mustangs, the Falcons improve to .500 overall (7-7) and are now 2-5 in the Lone Star Conference. WNMU falls to 3-12 and 1-7.
Senior Day Recap:
- Brooke Runyan is from Devine, Texas. Runyan has attended UTPB for all four years and is a four-year starter for the program. She was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week in 2023, is a two-team team captain, and has been an ITA Scholar-Athlete each year. She has made the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of the last four semesters, twice with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She is majoring in Biology and she was recently ranked No. 50 in the nation in doubles with Paige Bott.
- Rhea Singh is from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Singh has attended UTPB since the Fall of 2021 and is a three-year starter for the program. She transferred to UTPB from Missouri Western State University where she played her first year. She is majoring in Human Performance- Pre Professionals.
- Teodora Vrucan is from Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Vrucan has attended UTPB for all four years and is a four-year starter for the program. Vrucan was named Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference in doubles for the 2023-24 season after finishing the regular season with a 14-14 doubles record. At the 2024 ITA South Central Regional Championships this past Fall, Vrucan teamed up with freshman Sophia Rashid to win the Doubles Flight B Main Draw championship. She has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete each year. She been a member of the President Honor's List and is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business. She has also made the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in five semesters in her career, including three times with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Next Up: UTPB will close out the regular season with three more conference matches next week. First will be a makeup of UTPB's postponed matchup against Sul Ross State University, which has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at the UTPB Campus Tennis Courts in Odessa, Texas. Then with back-to-back road matches remaining, UTPB will play at No. 23 The University of Texas at Tyler starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, in Tyler Texas, followed by the regular-season finale at No. 38 Dallas Baptist University starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25, from Dallas, Texas.
