ABILENE, Texas (September 20, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team opened the season at the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboy Classic over the weekend.

UTPB and HSU played in four doubles matches and in eight singles matches on both Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19.

The Falcons went 4-0 in doubles on Friday and 8-0 in singles on Saturday. Overall, the Falcons were 7-1 in doubles and 14-2 in singles.

In singles, Fanny Bergstrom, Mattea Bowe, Alice Bolton, Sophia Crosby and Alyssa Glasgow were each 2-0. In addition, Bowe, Bolton, Crosby and Glasgow were each a combined 4-0 between both singles and doubles.

UTPB Head Coach Chris Tolson said, "I am very happy with our weekend and how our team competed. Our freshmen, Guadalupe Rodriguez Esteban and Brianna Landin, both got wins on the weekend, and then we had four players go 4-0 on the weekend. It was a great start to the year, and now we look to continue improving as we head into a D2 event at St. Mary's."

Next up for the Falcons will be the Brother Al Invitational on October 2-4, hosted by St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
