ODESSA, Texas (March 29, 2025) – The upstart UT Permian Basin women's tennis team began the day on Saturday with high hopes of challenging the No. 2 team in NCAA Division II, Midwestern State University, but in the end, the Falcons fell 6-1 against the Mustangs.
Paige Bott and
Brooke Runyan won 7-5 over the No. 13 nationally-ranked doubles pair in NCAA Division II, Jessica Binzari and Anda Ghinga, at No. 1 doubles, but the rest of the doubles matches went to the Mustangs.
UTPB's lone point of the day came via a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 three-set, comeback win for Bott over Camila Garcia at No. 5 singles.
In the final two matches to finish,
Rhea Singh battled Hannah Yip to a tiebreak in the second set, falling 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 2 singles, and
Teodora Vrucan took Ghinha to a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, where she ultimately fell 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-8) in a close final set.
In their regular-season matchup last year, it was again Bott who picked up UTPB's lone point of the day with a win in singles, but UTPB's also showed improvement this time around after getting swept in doubles a year ago.
