MIDLAND, Texas (April 24, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team opened up its final weekend of the season with a 6-1 defeat against Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Friday at the Bush Tennis Center.
The closest doubles match was a 7-5 defeat for
Sophia Rashid and
Alyssa Glasgow against Kaitlin Blount and Yasmin El Fadili at No. 3 doubles.
At No. 1 doubles,
Fanny Bergstrom and
Mattea Bowe fell 6-3 vs. the No. 12 nationally-ranked pair of Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donkor. The pair of Tocci and Donkor jumped eight spots in the national rankings from last week.
In singles, UTPB fell in straight sets in the top-four singles spots.
Bergstrom fell 6-4, 6-3 against Donkor at No. 1 singles. Donkor rejoined the Javelinas' program this year after graduating from TAMUK three years prior. With a 6-1, 6-1 straight-sets win over UT Tyler's No. 10-ranked Yona Bancarel last week, Donkor made history as the first TAMUK women's tennis player to win the Lone Star Conference's Singles Player of the Week award since the award split into separate singles and doubles designation prior to the start of this season.
Dinethya Dharmaratne lost 6-3, 6-4 against Tocci, the 2025 LSC Newcomer of the Year, at No. 2 singles. Tocci was also named Honorable Mention All-LSC Singles and earned a spot on the All-LSC Academic Team a year ago. Then this past Fall, Tocci claimed the No. 9 spot in in the ITA Fall Regional Rankings after advancing to the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championship.
Rashid fell 6-2, 6-2 vs. Andrea Landaeta at No. 3 singles. Landaeta was No. 7 in the Fall Regional Rankings after upsetting multiple seeded opponents en route to a quarterfinal appearance in the main draw at the ITA Regional Championship.
Bowe fell 6-4, 6-1 vs. Annika Andersson Gomez at No. 4 singles. It was the 11th straight singles win for Andersson Gomez, establishing herself as one of the most dominant players in the conference down the stretch.
Paige Sitanggang battled to a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 5 singles, falling 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) vs. Blount.
Sophia Crosby earned UTPB's lone win with a 6-3, 6-2 straight-sets win over El Fadili in the six hole. It was her second win in a row.

Team Records:
- UTPB falls to 6-13 overall and 2-7 in the Lone Star Conference.
- It was the Falcons' 12th straight loss vs. TAMUK (9-10, 5-5), which remains in sixth place in the LSC standings (six teams advance to LSC Tournament). It was the first LSC win on the road this season for the Javelinas, who had previously lost their first four conference matches of the season before winning four straight to get to .500. All four of the Javelinas' first four conference wins this season came at home, including an upset win over No. 27 UT Tyler.
- Last year, TAMUK collected a pair of wins over top-25-ranked opponents, finished with their best record since 2018-19 (12-8), and earned a berth to the LSC Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
Next Up: UTPB will close out the regular season with its second of back-to-back home matches. The Falcons' season finale comes against No. 29 Angelo State University starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas.
