ABILENE, Texas (March 21, 2025) – The Falcons had an impressive outing in their final tune-up match heading into conference play. UT Permian Basin women's tennis played at NCAA Division III Hardin-Simmons University and won by a final score of 6-1.
Paige Bott and
Brooke Runyan (No. 1 doubles) and
Fanny Bergstrom and
Sophia Rashid (No. 3 doubles) both won by a score of 6-1 in doubles before
Rhea Singh and
Teodora Vrucan pulled out a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreaker win at No. 2 doubles.
Bott and Runyan paired together at No. 1 doubles for the second match in a row and earned the win in the top spot for the second match in a row in regular-season action. In addition, Singh made her season debut while Bergstrom and Rashid also played together for the first time this season.
In singles, UTPB got a 6-1, 6-1 win from Bergstrom at No. 3 singles; a 6-3, 6-0 win from Vrucan at No. 2 singles; and a 6-3, 6-1 win from Bott at No. 4 singles to clinch the win.
UTPB's lone loss came at No. 1 singles after the match was in hand.
The final two matches saw
Dinethya Dharmaratne win 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and
Tuva Asplund cruise 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Dharmaratne is currently a perfect 5-0 in singles as a freshman.

- UTPB improves to 4-2 and HSU falls to 5-6. It was the Falcons' sixth-straight win over the Cowgirls since 2013, including the last three in Abilene.
Next Up: UT Permian Basin plays its first home match and first Lone Star Conference match of the season on Friday, March 28, against Cameron University. The match will be played at the Ratliff Stadium Complex Tennis Courts starting at 10 a.m.
