LAS CRUCES, N.M. (September 27, 2024) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team concluded its Fall schedule this weekend (Friday-Sunday) in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on the campus of New Mexico State University as the Falcons competed in the Aggie invite.

UTPB, Angelo State University (ASU), Lubbock Christian University (LCU), the University of New Mexico (UNM), and Western New Mexico University (WNMU) each made their way to Las Cruces to compete against the hosts from New Mexico State University (NMSU).

Doubles is where UTPB had the most success. In Flight B, Dinethya Dharmaratne and Paige Sitanggang won the consolation final with a 6-3 victory over Mary-June Quinn and Anastasia Melnikova (ASU). In Flight D, Alyssa Glasgow and Sophia Rashid defeated Emma Petton and Mariella Gelbke (NMSU) 8-4 in the semifinals of the main draw before coming up short, 7-5, against Anna Wache and Danaiya Amangazhiyeva (ASU) in the final.

Glasgow and Rashid would finish the tournament 2-1 together after earning a 6-3 win over Eva Guta and Xaviera Melgar (WNMU) during the final day of the tournament.

UTPB's lone two wins in singles came on the final day from Paige Sitanggang 6-2, 7-5 over Gabriela Franco (LCU) and from Peyton Jones 6-3, 6-0 over Alexandra Luders (LCU).

UTPB Head Tennis Coach Chris Tolson wrapped up the Fall season for the women's tennis team and said, "The ladies competed well and it was a great learning process. We did a lot of great things on court even though the results didn't always reflect it. Sophia Rashid and Alyssa Glasgow played some great doubles this weekend winning two of their matches. This was the best doubles they have played all semester. Freshmen Paige Sitanggang and Peyton Jones were able to finish up the tournament both winning their last singles matches. It's been a good Fall semester that had a lot of growth from the first tournament to now."

This wraps up the fall season for the Falcons who will be back in the spring.
