MIDLAND, TX – While children were hunting Easter Eggs, the UT Permian Basin Falcons were hunting for an upset against nationally ranked Angelo State at the Bush Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons fought ASU during the whole match. Although the Rambelles took the day 6-1, the Falcons did have some solid finishes.
"Lisa (Guitton) and Brooke (Runyan) were on track to win their number 3 doubles match before they were called off due to the fact the schools agreed to play doubles until the point was clinched," said Head Coach
Alex Hunt. "Jenny (Nguyen) split sets at number 3 singles, barely losing 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker."
Things looked like they might turn around for UTPB when the teams started singles play.
"The big result came at number 1 singles," said Hunt. "
Teodora Vrucan secured a win over the number 23 ranked player in the country, Dianela Rodriguez. Teodora and Rodriguez had their fitness tested to the limit as they were having 70+ shot rallies with points lasting over 3 minutes."
Next up for the Falcons will be a trip to San Antonio to face St. Mary's and Our Lady of the Lake on Friday April 14 to wrap off the season.
