MJ Link has had a lot of huge games in his short time at UT Permian Basin, but Saturday night at Angelo State may have been his biggest. Link set a career high with 157 yards on six catches along with a touchdown. The 157 yards are the third most in a game in program history. Defensively
D'Ondre Robinson had a banner night with 18 tackles, the most in a game by a player other than Chris Hoad.
The Falcon offense started slow but finally broke through late in the first quarter.
Clayton Roberts dropped a dime into the lap of Link for a 62-yard score. Later in the first half, Roberts found Link over the middle for a grab of 28 yards. In the third it was Roberts to Link once again for a big play. This time Roberts hit Link on a short pass, who cut to the outside for 44 yards.
The Falcons had a terrific night on special teams. Late in the first half,
Jaques Tyler blocked the 10
th kick of his career. In the fourth, the Falcons did it again this time off a punt.
Jamil Pittman broke through for the block, scoop, and score from 16 yards out.
The defense combined for 12 tackles for a loss while
Trent Ward had an interception in the first quarter. The effort wasn't enough as the Rams took advantage of four Falcon turnovers for the 34-14 final.
