Link Sets Single Season TD Record in Second Half Offensive Explosion

Trailing at the half, UT Permian Basin Football's offense exploded in the fourth quarter on Homecoming.  The Falcons scored the final 30 points of the game, including 27 in the second half, in the 44-21 victory over Eastern New Mexico.

MJ Link had a huge night with two touchdown catches to set the program single season touchdown reception record.  The Falcons are now 10-2 at home since the start of the 2019 season, including five straight wins at Grande Stadium.  All-time the Falcons are now back to .500 at home.

The offense came out firing on the first drive of the game.  Clayton Roberts got into a rhythm completing seven of his first eight pass attempts including a pair to Matt Zubiate for 37 yards.  Roberts completed the drive with a six-yard touchdown pass to Link.

On the ensuing Greyhound drive, Derrian Forge picked off a pass at the 32 to swing momentum.  The Falcons once again drove downfield and were aided by a roughing the passer penalty.  They pushed the ball into the red zone but were forced to settle for a 31-yard field goal by Michael Mayfield.  The Greyhounds answered back with a pair of touchdowns of their own to take the lead.

Jayvon Davis found paydirt as he bobbed and weaved his way through the Greyhound defense to put the Falcons back in front, but the Greyhounds answered with a long touchdown run of their own heading into the half.

In the second half the Falcons completely took over.  Late in the third, Nathan Tilford found the end zone from 25 yards out after a quick juke.  They poured it on from there with big plays.  Marcus Molina made a 59-yard catch and run for his first career touchdown.  Just two minutes later, Roberts connected with Link for a 46-yard score to set the single season record.  On the ensuing Greyhound drive, Forge picked off his second pass of the night and returned it 35 yards for the final score of the night.

Roberts finished the night with 231 yards and three touchdown passes.  Molina led the receivers in yardage with 90 on five catches, while Jordan Smart led the team in catches with six.  On the ground Davis continues to impress with 91 yards and averaged 6.1 yards per carry.  On defense La'Daidreain Glasker had a pair of sacks and five tackles.  Jaques Tyler had his fourth interception of the season to remain tied for the lead in the LSC along with two pass break ups to increase his LSC lead to 11.

The Falcons are in control of their own destiny in the pursuit of a Lone Star Conference Championship as they head to preseason favorite Texas A&M – Commerce next Saturday.
