GOODWELL, Okla. – Ten of the 12 players that saw action for the University of the Permian Basin women's basketball team scored at least two points as the Falcons cruised to an 86-65 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in Heartland Conference action.
Miesha Blackshear poured in a game-high 20 points, hitting 9-of-11 shots from the field while dishing out three assists.
Cashena Mathis was the only other player in double-figures with 12 as the Falcons improved to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in Heartland Conference action.
The Falcons trailed for the first 2:30 of the game but
Missy Jackson's jumper gave the Falcons a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way. Jackson's bucket was part of a 9-0 run that was capped off with a three-pointer by
Andrea Chavez to give UTPB a 9-4 lead. Chavez's three was one of 14 on the day for the Falcons, who hit 41.2 percent from long range.
UTPB took advantage of a scoring drought by the Aggies, who scored just four points over a five minute stretch midway through the first half. The Falcons on the other hand, rattled off 16-straight points and eventually led 34-16 with 5:27 to go before halftime. They would eventually take a 47-24 advantage into the locker room at the break.
The second half was much of the same for the Falcons, who kept a 20-point lead the rest of the way. UTPB forced 25 turnovers that led to 33 points for the Falcons, who remain tied for the league lead in the Heartland Conference.
UTPB will return home next Saturday when it hosts St. Edward's at 2 p.m. in the Falcon Dome.
