In a game that saw 65 fouls called and 82 combined free throws taken, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's basketball team edged out Angelo State 83-80 to improve to 5-1 on the year.

Despite making just two field goals in the final 7:43 of the game, the Falcons made 10 free throws down the stretch to protect their once 19-point lead in the second half. Five different players scored in double-figures with Teisha King leading the way with 16, marking the second-straight game she has led the team in scoring. She was 7-of-12 from the field and dished out a team-high four assists.

The Falcons led 66-47 with 10:52 to go after King converted a layup, but UTPB scored just four points over the next 4:10 with two of those coming via free throws. Luckily for UTPB, Angelo State had its troubles scoring as well as it was only able to close the gap to 13 (70-57) during that span.

UTPB held a double-digit lead for most of the second half until Camille Perkins sank one of her 10 free throws on the night to make it 73-64 with 3:44 to play. She attempted a game-high 14 free throws and was one of three players on both teams to attempt 10-or-more freebies.

After picking up a defensive rebound with 22 seconds to play, Miesha Blackshear was fouled and converted the front end of a pair of free throws to give UTPB an 82-75 advantage. She would finish with six rebounds on the night and a season-low one steal.

Lindsey Mahone drained a three-pointer with 14 seconds to play to pull the Rambelles within four (82-78) and a 10-footer just outside the key with under five seconds to play, but a free throw by Blackshear with two seconds to play sealed the victory for UTPB.

The Falcons hit 47.3 percent from the field and a season-low 56.3 percent from the free throw line. Angelo State was a near mirror image, shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 55.9 from the line.

Blackshear finished with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and connected on 4-of-6 shots from the free throw line. Roshell Barnes picked up the game's only double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, both of which are season highs. Tammy Acosta finished with 12, while Andrea Chavez added 10.

The Falcons will be back in action this weekend when they compete in the Mesa State Classic in Mesa, Ariz. There, they will take on Dixie State and Western Oregon.
