WEATHERFORD, Okla. –
It took a little while for the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's basketball team to get rolling, but 66 points in the second half lifted the Falcons to a 110-72 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce, setting a school record for most points in a game.

The Falcons, playing in the Southwestern Oklahoma Tournament, were red-hot hitting 56.8 percent from the field, including 45 percent from behind the three-point line. Four different players hit double-figures while shooting 56.8 percent from the field as the Falcons surpassed the 100-point barrier for the third-straight game. UTPB improved to 4-0, marking their best start in school history.

Miesha Blackshear continues to have a career season as she put up a game-high 21 points while pulling down seven rebounds and picking up five steals. She now has 29 thefts on the season. Blackshear was not the only player turning heads as Tammy Acosta countered with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Teisha King, Andrea Chavez and Missy Jackson added 16, 15 and 10 points respectively.

The teams went back and forth in the first half with the game tied on eight different occasions in the first 15 minutes. The Lions broke a 32-32 tie and went on a 6-0 run to lead 38-32 with 5:31 to go after Mattilyn McIntyre hit a 10-footer for two of her team-high 17 points. A&M-Commerce would eventually lead 44-37 with 3:12 to go before the break, but a 7-2 run by the Falcons to end the half pulled them within two as they went into the locker room down 46-44.

A&M-Commerce hit nearly 60 percent of its shots in the first half, but the second was a polar opposite as UTPB held the Lions to just 32.4 from the field in the final period.

The Falcons opened the second half with a 41-6 run to lead 87-54 with 11:29 to go and never looked back. UTPB, which normally presses the entire game, played a half court game the final eight minutes of the game.

A&M-Commerce scored just six points in the first eight minutes of the second half and went scoreless from 14:44 to 11:32 to go. The Falcons continued to pour it on as Lauren Unger hit a pair of free throws with 4:28 left to give UTPB a 105-65 lead.

Like the Lions, UTPB scorched the nets, but did it in the second half as it hit 68.4 percent from the field and hit 5-of-9 three pointers during that span.

The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow when they take on host Southwestern Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m. The game will mark the fourth contest of the week and the second time UTPB has played on back-to-back days.
