GOODYEAR, Ariz. (April 7, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's golf team finished seventh out of 20 teams at the par-72, 7035-yard Palm Valley Classic.
UTPB (288-277-279; 844) moved up seven spots on the team leaderboard during round two, rising from 13th place to sixth place, and then went as high as fourth place during round three before finishing seventh overall. Only five strokes separated third place from seventh place.
The Falcons shot even-par during round one, followed by a fabulous 11-under during round two. Then during the third and final round, UTPB was again 11-under during the final few holes, but ultimately went nine-under for the round to finish at 20-uner-par overall for the tournament.
UTPB's three-round score of 844 is the third-lowest in program history while its round-two score of 277 is tied for the fourth-lowest single-round score in program history.
All five UTPB golfers shot even-par or better during their awesome round two.
Senior
Will Tate (69-68-69; 206) was tied for 13th place after round one and was tied for sixth place heading into the final round. At one point during round three, he found himself in second place and just two strokes off the lead. He would finish by shooting under-par during all three rounds of the tournament and tied for fifth place out of 108 golfers at 10-under. It was his second tournament in a row shooting 10-under-par. In addition, Tate's three-round score of 206 is tied for the fourth-lowest in program history.
Junior
Nizar Bourehim (73-69-69; 211) authored a four-stroke improvement from round one to round two, and then kept it going in round three with a second straight round of three-under-par golf to move up to finish second among the Falcons and tied for 22nd overall (-5).
Junior
Ioan Rowe (71-70-73; 214) shot under-par during each of the first two rounds, but finished tied for 41st overall (-2).
Tate, Rowe and Bourehim all entered the final round of the tournament under-par overall, and they would be joined by the next golfer as well. Senior
Thonsaeng Nunya (75-70-70; 215) was the fourth UTPB golfer to shoot two-under during round two. He then matched his two-under during round three and finished tied for 48th overall (-1).
Freshman
Laurent Beech (77-72-71; 220) finished tied for 78th overall (+4).
In all, the field of 20 teams featured six teams that were either nationally-ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DII Coaches Poll.
Speaking to the strength of the field in this tournament, UTPB had four golfers – Tate, Rowe, Bourehim, Nunya – shoot under-par during round two, and then had a different set of four golfers – Tate, Bourehim, Nunya, Beech – shoot under-par during round three.
In all, four Falcons – Tate, Bourehim, Rowe, Nunya – finished under-par for the tournament.

Paul Chavez said, "This was a great finish to the regular season. It was a total team effort. All five players contributed in different rounds. Our focus now turns to the Lone Star Conference Championship. Falcons up."
UTPB was third as a team in total pars (72) and was tied for third with three eagles. The Falcons also ranked fourth as a team in par-4 scoring (3.99; -1) and were fifth in par-5 scoring (4.57; -26).
Individually, Bourehim was tied for second in the entire field with 41 pars, while Tate was tied for second with a pair of eagles. The remaining eagle for UTPB came courtesy of Rowe.
Next up for the Falcons is the Lone Star Conference Championship. The championship begins on Monday, April 20, from the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club in Rockwall, Texas.
