Sitanggang clinches match as women’s tennis picks up first conference win

SILVER CITY, N.M. (April 17, 2026) – The UT Permian Basin women's tennis team kicked off its final road trip of the season in style, winning 4-3 at Western New Mexico University thanks to the match-clinching win by freshman Paige Sitanggang at No. 5 singles.

UTPB took a 1-0 lead, winning the doubles point thanks to a 6-4 win by Dinethya Dharmaratne and Alyssa Glasgow over Lucia Carmena and Sofija Krstic in the final match at the No. 3 spot.

UTPB won in straight sets in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions and won in three sets in the No. 5 spot.

Fanny Bergstrom did not lose a game in her first set and rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Nikoletta Pytel at No. 1 singles.

With the match tied 2-2, Dharmaratne defeated Josefina Bailetti 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

In the deciding match, Sitanggang was down 3-0 in the third set at No. 5 singles, but came back to clinch the match 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 over Xaviera Melgar.

  • With their fifth straight win over the Mustangs, the Falcons improve to 5-12 overall and are now 1-6 in the Lone Star Conference. WNMU falls to 4-12 and 1-6, and is now 0-6 in home matches.

Next Up: UTPB will play in its final road match of the season at Sul Ross State University starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Pete P. Gallego Tennis Center in Alpine, Texas.
