Falcons unable to cage Eagles

UTPB hits nine home runs by seven different players in the series

EDMOND, Okla. (April 10, 2026) – Friday's doubleheader at Oklahoma Christian University was all about offense, but unfortunately for the Falcons, they did not have enough as UT Permian Basin fell 14-11 and 10-9.

Game 1 (UTPB 11, OC 14):
  • Both teams scored four runs on four hits in the first inning, with the Falcons taking advantage of three errors by the Eagles in the top half.
  • After hitting a two-run home run to left field to highlight UTPB's portion of the first inning, Alden Quintanilla put UTPB back in front (5-4) in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Aidan Lopez, who earlier hit the first of back-to-back doubles to start off the inning.
  • After hitting a home run in both games on Thursday, Trey Migl hit his third home run of the series with a three-run shot to left field to make it 7-5 Eagles in the bottom of the second.
  • Then after a throwing error from third base to extend the top of the third inning, UTPB tied it at 7-7 with a two-out, two-run home run to left field by senior Jarren Lewis.
  • However, OC would break the tie with two home runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-7 lead.
  • A two-out, two-run single to left center by Lopez cut it to a one-run deficit (10-9) in the top of the fifth inning.
  • After a four-run bottom of the fifth for OC coming on just two hits, two walks and two wild pitches, Quintanilla hit his second two-run home run of the game, this time to right field, to make it 14-11 in the top of the sixth, but UTPB would get no closer.
  • Quintanilla was 3-for-3 with five RBI's and two home runs, and Daylon Jefcoats was 3-for-5.
  • OC had a line of 14 runs, 15 hits and five errors while UTPB had 11 runs on 13 hits with no errors, its only game of the weekend without an error.
  • Both teams hit three home runs, but OC separated itself with eight stolen bases.

Game 2 (UTPB 9, OC 10):
  • UTPB scored three runs in the top of the first, its third game this series scoring at least three runs in the first inning.
  • Another three-run inning for UTPB came in the third inning, wrapped up by a two-run home run to center field by Demetrius Deramus, his second home run of the weekend.
  • That made it 6-1 Falcons, and then a solo home run to left field by Gael Bernal made it 7-2 in the top of the fourth inning.
  • In the top of the sixth, UTPB had the bases loaded with one out after singles by Bernal, Carlos Chavez and Deramus, and then an RBI-single to left center by Cruz Garcia scored Bernal and was followed by a sacrifice fly to center by Kaegan Costa to score Chavez and make it a 9-5 lead.
  • Zeke Alexander left with the lead, allowing seven hits, five runs, one walk and four strikeouts in five innings.
  • However, UTPB would be unable to maintain the cushion as OC came up with three straight two-out RBI-singles to cut it to a one-run game (9-8) in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Eagles then tied the game (9-9) with a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the seventh and took the lead (10-9) with a leadoff home run to left field by Ruben Castro in the bottom of the eighth.
  • After getting the final four outs against the Eagles without allowing a run in the first game of the day, it was Shawn George (0-1) who returned to the mound in the bottom of the seventh in game two and was on the bump for both the game-tying and go-ahead runs by the Eagles.
  • With one out in the bottom of the eighth after OC took the lead, the game went into a 30-minute lightening delay. After the teams returned to the diamond, Sebastian Lozoya was able to work around a hit by pitch and a walk to get the final two outs in the inning.
  • All three at bats for UTPB in the ninth inning went to a full count, but ended with a groundout, a swinging strikeout, and a flyout to center field.
  • UTPB outhit OC 16-13 while both teams committed two errors.
  • Bernal, Quintanilla, Chavez and Garcia all had three hits for the Falcons while Bernal also scored three runs.
