Falcons win third straight match

ABILENE, Texas (March 21, 2026) – The UT Permian Basin women's tennis team won its third match in a row and defeated NCAA Division III Hardin-Simmons University 6-1 for the second season in a row.

UTPB swept doubles with Sophia Rashid and Fanny Bergstrom (No. 1 doubles) and Dinethya Dharmaratne and Sophia Crosby (No. 3 doubles) both winning 6-1. It was the third straight win at No. 1 doubles for Rashid and Bergstrom while UTPB's other two doubles pairs featured players playing together for the first time this season.

UTPB needed three sets to win in each of the top-two singles spots. Bergstrom won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 over Sydney Tomlin, the 2025 American Southwest Conference (ASC) Freshman of the Year, at No. 1 singles, and Rashid came back to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Brenna Gordon at No. 2 singles.

UTPB swept the No. 3 through No. 5 singles spots in straight sets as Mattea Bowe dominated 6-0, 6-0 over Addyson Tylaska at No. 3 singles, Alyssa Glasgow cruised 6-1, 6-1 over Emma Curiel at No. 4 singles, and Paige Sitanggang rolled 6-3, 6-1 over Taylor Levy at No. 5 singles.

Crosby fell in the final match of the day in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7), at No. 6 singles.

Team Records:
  • UTPB improves to 3-7 with three straight victories.
  • It was the Falcons' seventh-straight win over the Cowgirls since 2013, including the last four in Abilene.
  • Hardin-Simmons (5-8) played three matches split across Abilene on Saturday, dropping two matches to Lubbock Christian University (7-0) and UT Permian Basin (6-1), and winning against McMurry University (7-0) in a road match.

Next Up: Just one day before the start of Lone Star Conference action, UTPB will play another NCAA Division III school, Texas Wesleyan University, at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 27, from the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas, the same site as the current LSC Championships.
