                     LUBBOCK, Texas (September 12, 2025) – For the second consecutive year, The University of Texas Permian Basin women's cross country team opened up its season at the Texas Tech Open.
UTPB was led by three newcomers in the field of 103 runners, sophomore 
Fanny Bergstrom was 85th with a 6K time of 28:19.3, freshman 
Gabrielle Garcia was 88th at 28:45.7, and fellow-freshman 
Celine Maldonado was 89th at 28:58.3.
Among the returners, seniors 
Nayeli Galindo (31:37.5) and 
Julie Tejeda (33:18.3) were 97th and 99th, respectively.
In the team standings, West Texas A&M University finished in first place with 27 points while Texas Tech University was second with 50 points and Odessa College was third with 61 points. The individual winner was freshman Milicent Wafula (20:49.1) of Odessa College.
UT Permian Basin will compete next at the Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational, hosted by New Mexico Junior College at 10 a.m. Central Time / 9 a.m. Mountain Time on Friday, September 26, at Harry McAdams Park in Hobbs, New Mexico.
