FORT WORTH, Texas (April 27, 2025) – Needing a win in its final match of the regular season to clinch a share of third place in the Lone Star Conference, The No. 47 University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team did just that with a 6-1 win at Dallas Baptist University on Sunday.
UTPB won the doubles point as No. 29 nationally-ranked
Jonathan Vega and
Jonas Krahofer defeated Ricardo Carvajalino and Fabian Rosales 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and
Grzegorz Rudnicki and
Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez Ibanez defeated Edgar Mayorga and Alec Rule 6-2 at No. 3 doubles in the first two matches.
Vega and Krahofer are now 12-2 together this season overall (11-2 No. 1 doubles), and are 6-2 together in the Lone Star Conference (all at No. 1 doubles). In addition, Rudnicki and Gonzalez Ibanez played together for the first time this season while at No. 2 doubles,
Florian Kralik and
Lucas Nitzschke played together for just the second time.
UTPB won each of the first five singles matches as Rudnicki defeated Carvajalino 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Gonzalez Ibanez defeated Rosales 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, and Nitzschke defeated Arturo Langle 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
In the next two matches, No. 35-ranked Vega was victorious 6-2, 6-4 over Matthew Abbey at No. 1 singles and
Lucas Nakasato earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over JW Altman at No. 2 singles.

- UTPB finishes the regular season 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the Lone Star Conference, and tied with No. 24 Midwestern State University (13-5, 5-3) for third place in the conference standings.
- The Falcons own the all-time series, 13-0, against the Patriots since their first matchup on March 1, 2012.
Next Up: The Falcons earned the No. 3 seed in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament and face No. 2-seeded Lubbock Christian University in the semifinal round Friday morning at the Arlington Tennis Center. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
The winner moves on to play in the championship round Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
