SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 10, 2025) – The No. 45 UT Permian Basin men's tennis team fell 4-2 at Our Lady of the Lake University, which is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, in its first match of its Spring Break trip this week.
UTPB took a 2-1 lead after winning the first two singles matches, 6-0, 6-1 by
Jonas Krahofer over Matis Nuziere at No. 4 singles and 6-1, 7-5 by
Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez Ibanez over Aymeric Bruno at No. 3 singles.
However, the Falcons dropped the final three singles matches.
Lucas Nitzschke fell 6-3, 6-2 against Luis Hernandez at No. 5 singles,
Grzegorz Rudnicki lost 6-3, 7-5 against Kyllian Savary at No. 2 singles, and in the final match,
Jonathan Vega came up short by the same score of 6-3, 7-5 to David Ekpenyong at No. 1 singles.
Vega is ranked No. 65 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II men's singles rankings while for OLLU, Ekpenyong is ranked No. 2 nationally in the NAIA while Savary is No. 17 and Bruno checks in at No. 31.
