SAN ANTONIO, Texas (October 19, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team continued its Fall season by competing at both the St. Mary's University Brother Al Invitational and the Texas A&M University Texarkana Eagle Invite over the weekend.

StMU Brother Al Invitational
The St. Mary's University Rattlers host the rescheduled Brother Al Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Rohrbach Tennis Stadium. It was postponed to October 16-17 due to rain in late September.

The annual Brother Al Invitational was set up as a flighted round robin tournament.

In doubles, Lucas Nakasato and Andrew Hunsley went 3-0 and won Flight 1 while Jack Hansen-Ratter and Lucas Yamaguti went 2-1 in Flight 2.

In singles, Yamaguti (Flight 1), Nakasato (Flight 2), and Ayush Sharma (Flight 5) each went 2-1 in their respective flight.

TAMUT Eagle Open
Texas A&M University Texarkana (TAMUT) hosted the second annual Eagle Open on October 16-17 at the Texarkana College Tennis Courts and the Texas High School Tennis Courts, welcoming collegiate competitors from across the region for two days of competition. The Eagle Open featured four programs, including host Texas A&M University Texarkana competing against NCAA Division II opponents from Ouachita Baptist University, Southern Arkansas University and The University of Texas Permian Basin.

Nehal Naidoo led the Falcons by winning the top singles flight. He defeated Frode Neumann (SAU) 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, defeated Fedir Zalievskyi (TAMUT) 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) in the semifinals, and then took down Guillaume Randoux (OBU) 7-5, 7-5 in the final.

In the second singles flight, Kabir Chothani defeated Maximilian Brenner (OBU) 6-1, 6-1 and Enrique Silveira defeated Jose Rodrigues (TAMUT) 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) in the consolation semifinals. Chothani and Silveira then squared off in the consolation final with Chothani winning 6-3, 6-3.

In the fourth singles flight, Christian Lopez advance all the way to the final with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bramlett Baird (TAMUT) in the quarterfinals and a 6-3, 6-1 win over Calin Simu (OBU) in the semifinals. However, in the final he fell 6-0, 6-3 against Tinus Mueller (OBU).

In the top doubles flight, the pairing of Naidoo/Joao D'Amorim advanced to the final, defeating William Von Pongracz/Demir Halisdemir (SAU) 8-3 in the quarterfinals and rolling past Jose Rodrigues/Jordi Fraile Raton (TAMUT) 8-0 in the semifinals. In the final, however, they came up just short by a score of 9-7 vs. Alexi Khamrotau/Fedir Zalievskyi (TAMUT).

In the second doubles flight, Philipp Gaurieder/Chothani won the third-place matchup with a 6-4 decision over Caliun Simu/Mathyss Esclapez (OBU) while Silveira/Lopez also won the consolation final.

UTPB Head Coach Chris Tolson said, "It was a great weekend for both our men's and women's teams. It was fun to split the guys in half with some of the team traveling to Texarkana and some going to St. Mary's. We had amazing results at both tournaments: Nehal winning the top flight of singles at Texarkana and Andy and Lucas winning the top flight of doubles at St. Mary's. To have these kinds of results at St. Mary's while also having half of our team at Texarkana shows we have an incredibly deep and talented team. Hopefully we can work on a few things the next few days and have a good run at Fall ITA Regionals this week."

Next up for the Falcons will be the ITA South Central Regional Thursday, October 22, through Sunday, October 25, at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.
