ODESSA, Texas (October 6, 2025) – Thanks to the generosity and support of Edgardo Madrid & Associates, The University of Texas Permian Basin Athletics Department has announced Valeria Delgado (Women's Soccer) and Will Tate (Men's Golf) as the September Student-Athletes of the Month.

UTPB Athletics will be recognizing one male and one female student-athlete each month as the Edgardo Madrid and Associates Student-Athletes of the Month. At the end of the 2025-26 athletics season, one male and one female student-athlete will be selected as UTPB's Edgardo Madrid and Associates Student-Athletes of the Year.

Delgado has been a rock in goal for the Falcons this season as she allowed only four goals in six matches with 25 saves and an .862 save percentage during the month of September. She ranked first in the Lone Star Conference in save percentage, was second in goals-against average (0.670), and was third in saves per match (4.17). She started all six matches in goal during the first month of the season and recorded a pair of shutouts. She posted a shutout against Colorado St. University-Pueblo (Sept. 4) during the Falcons' season opener and never allowed more than one goal in the match during the month.

"Valeria has been a standout for us in goal and has been a big part of our success defensively," spoke UTPB Head Women's Soccer Coach Garrett Kull. "Goalkeeper is one of the hardest positions in sports as it takes someone who is fearless, mentally resilient, and willing to put their body on the line every game, all of which Valeria has excelled at. She's made a lot of big saves for us, and I'm excited for her to receive this recognition."

Tate is beginning to make a habit of winning Student-Athlete of the Month awards. Last year he was named the Student-Athlete of the Month three times (October, March, April), and wrapped up the year by being named the 2024-25 Edgardo Madrid & Associates Men's Student-Athlete of the Year. Tate earns recognition for the month of September after putting together a top-10 finish in the Falcons' season opener at the DII Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya. Tate (72-71-81; 224; +8) led the tournament by two strokes entering the final round, but fell back six spots during the final round and ultimately tied for seventh place. Tate had originally been one-under through two rounds. As a team, the Falcons were in contention through two rounds (T3rd) before falling to sixth place during the final round.

"Will is definitely well-deserving of this honor," said UTPB Head Golf Coach Paul Chavez. "Although he had a chance to try and win the tournament, when you put yourself in a great position to finish in the top-10 in a very competitive field like we had, you know you played well. Will is off to another great start, and we are looking forward to him having a great senior year."
