MIDLAND, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team finished tied for the best record in the Lone Star Conference after a 5-2 win over St. Mary's in the team's regular-season finale on Sunday at Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas.
"We played clean today. I was really happy to finish out our regular season in this fashion. Now our eyes are set on the LSC tournament," said head coach
Alex Hunt.
The Falcons got off to a good start by taking the doubles point.
Vitaliy Horovoy and
Jonathan Vega picked up a win on court two, 6-1 before the Rattlers responded with a win on court one. UTPB clinched the point with
Takumi Katsuda and
Lucas Nitzschke's 7-5 victory on court three.
Vega quickly picked up a 6-0, 6-1 singles win to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Nitzschke also earned a straight-set win, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) before Katusuda clinched the match, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Horovoy capped the match with a three-set, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 10-8, win.
Next up for the Falcons are the Lone Star Conference Championships beginning April 25 from the Arlington Tennis Center.
