FORT SMITH, Arkansas - The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team picked up a convincing 6-1 win over Arkansas - Fort Smith on Saturday.

"I'm proud of the ladies today. Fort Smith is a good team and we took care of them the entire five hours," said head coach
Alex Hunt. "We are proving we can play at a very high level, we have to make sure it's as consistent as possible. We'll look to take this momentum into next week as we take on LCU and Midwestern."Â

The Falcons got off to a strong start by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Paige Bott and
Teodora Vrucan got things going with a 6-0 win on court three.
Brooke Runyan and
Mattea Bowe followed them with a 6-3 on court one while
Lisa Guitton and
Tuva Asplund won on court two, 6-4.

UTPB carried that momentum into singles play, winning all of their matches in straight sets. On six, Asplund only dropped a single game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Bowe claimed her match 6-2, 6-2, while Bott won 6-3, 6-1. Runyan cruised in the first set to win 6-1, 6-3 and Vrucan won her contest 6-2, 6-3.

The Falcons are back in action next Thursday, April 4 as they take on Lubbock Christian at the Bush Tennis Center in Midland.
