LAWTON, Oklahoma - The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis team came up just short in their attempt at an upset over No. 30 Cameron, falling 4-3 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

"We certainly missed a big opportunity today," said head coach Alex Hunt. "We pushed Cameron further than we ever have before, but they were more mentally tough than we were in the tight moments. We have a crucial match tomorrow against Fort Smith. It's going to be a very important day for us."

The Falcons jumped out to the early lead after winning the doubles point. Brooke Runyan and Mattea Bowe earned a win on court one, 6-4, while Paige Bott and Teodora Vrucan won on court three. 7-6 (7-5).

Cameron won four of the six singles contests by slim margins. Both wins by the Falcons came in the third set. Bott won her match on court four, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, while Tuva Asplund won on court six in thrilling fashion, 6-1, 5-7, 13-11. On court one, Brooke Runyan's match was closely contested with the Aggies coming out on top, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. Vrucan's match was decided by the slimmest of margins with her on the wrong side of a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) final.

The Falcons take on Arkansas - Fort Smith tomorrow at 10 a.m. before returning home next week.
