Falcons Continue To Rewrite Record Book

SANDESTIN, Fla. – Junior Ainhoa Gurruchaga and sophomore Arnie Taguines finished among the top six as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's golf team closed out the Emerald Coast Collegiate. 

The tournament was played at Baytowne Golf Club, a Par 71 with a total yardage of 5,881 yards.

#6 Flagler shot even (290-284-278) to win by 30 strokes over #7 Central Missouri (297-297-288) and #10 St. Mary's (Texas) (302-293-287).  Rounding out the top five were UTPB (4th - 303-291-293, +35) and West Florida (5th – 309-300-290, +47).

The Falcons final round score of 293 was tied for third best in school history while the 887 was the second best 3 round score in program history.

Individually, Stella Jelinek (Flagler) finished at -8 (71-66-68) to win by four strokes over Henriette Stranda (Flagler) (70-72-67).

Gurruchaga was tied for fourth at even (70-71-72). She led in Par 3 Scoring at 2.87, was third in Pars at 41 and tied for fourth in Par 4 Scoring at 4.07.  Gurruchaga had seven birdies and her score of 214 was the second best 3 round score in UTPB history.

Taguines was sixth at +3 (72-70-74).  She was tied for fourth in Pars with 39, tied for fifth in Par 5 Scoring at 4.83 and was among the top 10 in Par 4 Scoring at 4.15.  Taguines had six birdies and her scored of 216 was the fourth best 3 round score in UTPB history.

Junior Gabriela Maldonado tied for 24th at +13 (80-74-72).  She was among the top 10 in Par 3 Scoring at 3.00 and had six birdies.

Freshman Katrin Davidsdottir tied for 62nd at +24 (81-76-80).

Freshman Amanda Davidsson tied for 66th at +25 (86-77-75).

UT Permian Basin is at the Patriot Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, Mar. 18-19.  The tournament is being played at Poppy Hill GC in Pebble Beach, Calif.
