Park, Pittman golfers to watch 2024

Park, Pittman named men’s golfers to watch

2/2/2024 10:37:00 AM

The UT Permian Basin men's golf team showed everyone in the fall that the Falcons are soaring to new heights and are a threat to anyone trying to contend for a championship in the spring season.

Heading into the spring season, the Falcons have two golfers the Lone Star Conference has named golfers to watch out for – No. 1 ranked golfer in the country Sangha Park and midyear transfer JT Pittman.

In the fall Park was a golfer on a mission, leading to him resetting the 18-hole school record twice – current school record is 62 (-10), which Park accomplished at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.

Park also broke his own school record for tournament wins in a single season, at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate as he earned a school record third win of the season. The success Park had in the fall, resulted in Park being ranked the No. 1 golfer in the country in Division II and helped the men's team be ranked fifth in the region and 11th nationally. Park also was awarded SwingU College Player of the Fall and won multiple Lone Star Conference Golfer of the week honors during the fall season.

Additionally, Park ended 2023 competing at the Thunderbolt Invitational where he finished with a 3-under-par score of 213, which earned him second among Division II golfers.

"My main goals are to maintain a healthy body so that I can compete at my best every tournament. I just to focus on just playing my game and being patient. I don't want to focus on the results while I'm playing. I just need to be me out there," said Park. "We tasted some wins when we went to Hawaii at the end of the fall season and we have good expectations moving forward into the spring. We have already proved it to ourselves and I believe we have a chance to be in the national championship field and be able to win it as well."

Pittman will be making his debut for the Falcons this spring, after transferring from Wichita State. At Wichita State Pittman had a stroke average of 74.63 and recorded 58 birdies, 4 eagles, had a low 18-hole score of 68 and low 54 score of 218. He was named to AD Honor Roll in the fall of 2022 and 2023.

"Individually I just want to contribute to the team and hopefully be in contention in every tournament," said Pittman. "I'm also hoping to take my talents to the next level and help my team in any way I can."

The Falcons will be back on the course on March 3, when they head down to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the Las Vegas Desert Classic over the course of three days.
