ODESSA, Texas (October 25, 2024) – After splitting its first eight games of the season between the win and loss column, The University of Texas Permian Basin football team will play its final three games of the 2024 season on the road. UTPB (4-4 overall, 3-3 Lone Star Conference) takes on West Texas A&M University (3-4, 3-2) during "Week 8".

The Falcons and Buffaloes square off starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, from Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.

UTPB is coming off a 30-27 overtime defeat during its Senior Day against conference unbeaten Western Oregon University while WT is coming off of back-to-back wins at home over Western New Mexico University and at Eastern New Mexico University in which the Buffaloes scored 42 points in both games.

The Buffaloes scored 36 unanswered points on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 42-24 Lone Star Conference victory over the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds to win the 36th Wagon Wheel Game at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium in Portales, New Mexico.

THE SERIES (UTPB VS. WT)
The Falcons and Buffaloes meet for the eighth time on the gridiron this Saturday with WT holding the 5-2 advantage in the series that dates back to 2016. UTPB will be looking for its first win in program history in Canyon, Texas (currently 0-3).

The Falcons will be looking to take down the Buffs for the second year in a row after winning 41-40 in overtime last season inside Astound Broadband Stadium.

After UTPB came up with a successful onside kick and overcame a 10-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime, Falcons' quarterback Kenny Hrncir scored on a one-yard rush to start overtime and then WT saw the UTPB defense block its two-point conversion pass for the win.

UTPB scored 31 points in the fourth quarter and 17 points in the final four and a half minutes.

Hrncir had a hand in all five touchdowns for the Falcons. He ran for 105 yards and two scores and threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns. He finished with 424 yards in total offense, the second-best mark in school history.

WT HEAD COACH
Josh Lynn is now in his second season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history.

Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.
