Falcons Finish Strong Out West

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The shots were dropping as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's golf team had a very strong finish at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.  The tournament was played at the Golf Club of Estrella, a Par-72.

#14 Cal State East Bay (299-285= 584, +8) won by four strokes over Texas A&M International (RV).  Tied for third at +14 was Arkansas-Fort Smith, Cal State L.A. and Point Loma. 

UT Permian Basin shot 302-291 for a 593 to finish sixth at +17.  In the second round, the Falcons shot 291, the second-best round of the entire tournament.

Individually, Daniela Andrade of Cal State L.A. (71-69) finished at 4 under and won by a stroke over Isabelle Botero of Metro State-Denver.

Junior Gabriela Maldonado finished tied for sixth at -1 (71-72).

Sophomore Arnie Taguines finished tied for 13th at +2 (75-74)

Junior Ainhoa Gurruchaga finished tied for 32nd at +7 (77-74).

Freshman Katrin Davidsdottir finished tied for 53rd at +12.

Freshman Amanda Davidsson finished tied for 65th at +15.  She improved by 11 strokes in the second round.

UT Permian Basin is off until Monday, Oct. 2 when they played at the West Texas Fall Invite.  The tournament will be at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas.
