2/24/2026 5:24:00 PM

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 24, 2026) – The UT Permian Basin women's golf team faced a tough field at the 54-hole Rattler Invitational at Dominion Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

The field included 12 Lone Star Conference schools. The field for the Rattler Invitational was Angelo State, (RV) Arkansas Tech, Cameron, Colorado Christian, No. 2 DBU, Lubbock Christian, (RV) Midwestern State, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Pittsburg State, (host) No. 15 St. Mary's, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Dallas, UT Permian Basin, No. 6 UT Tyler, Washburn, and Western New Mexico (Rankings from WGCA Poll).

Due to a late start caused by a frost warning delay on Monday morning, the full 36 holes of day one at the Rattler Invitational could not be completed as darkness fell at the Dominion Country Club, with 2-3 holes remaining for the teams. On Tuesday, everyone played through after concluding round two to finish all three rounds of the tournament.

UTPB (325-330-327) finished 16th out of 17 teams with a score of 982 (+118).

The Falcons were led by Lorena Etxeberria (76-79-81; 236; +20) in a tie for 45th out of 93. Etxeberria started the tournament with just a four-over during round one, but finished the tournament where she started day two (T45th) after round two was suspended due to darkness.

Lakshita Pragnya (82-81-78; 241; +25) shot six-over during round three and tied for 61st. She moved up seven spots after the stoppage to end day one.

Carlota Gutierrez (82-83-83; 248; +32) matched Pragnya after round one, but finished 77th.

Lastly, Ella Veretto (85-88-85; 258: +42) tied for 84th and Nat Armenta (87-87-90; 264; +48) was 89th.

"This week was a very good learning experience for all of the team members," said Head Coach Paul Chavez. "Playing on Bermuda greens was not our cup of tea. We are not used to playing on it, and we had some troubles out there. But the team played hard. We are young, and they still have a lot to learn and to get better at, but it was a good experience to learn what it is going to take to compete at high-level events."

In a little bit over a month, UTPB will play at New Mexico Junior College in a dual match on Friday, March 27, in Hobbs, New Mexico.
