UTPB Takes The Fight Out Of Bearcats

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Everything came together as The University of Texas Permian Basin football team (2-1) beat Southwest Baptist (1-1) 86-7, Saturday afternoon at Plaster Stadium.  The points were the second highest total in school history.

UTPB started out with the ball and took over six minutes off the clock.  It culminated with sophomore Kory Harris running 15 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-0 with 8:52 to go.

10 seconds later, Colby Calvin, a graduate student, picked off a Bearcat pass and went 39 yards for the score.  The Falcons added a safety and then sealed the game with four touchdowns in the second quarter.

UT Permian Basin finished with 574 yards in total offense, third best in school history.  Kenny Hrncir, a graduate student, was 15-of-20 for 291 yards and three touchdowns and finished with 309 yards in total offense.

Junior Deon Cook caught two passes for 116 yards, the first 100 yard receiving game this season.  Leading the rushing attack was Harris (80 yards and two touchdowns) and junior Nemier Herod (64 yards and a touchdown).  Junior Rafael Vargas tied his own school record with 12 extra points.

Defensively, the Falcons held Southwest Baptist to 21 yards on the ground and 197 yards in total offense.  Both marks rank among the top five lowest in school history.  Dequan Street, a graduate student, picked up a fumble and took it 57 yards for a score.

UT Permian Basin is back home, Saturday, Sept. 23, opening up the Lone Star Conference season against West Texas A&M.  The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
