CARMEL, Ind. – The field was loaded as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's golf team opened the season at the UIndy Invitational, Monday.  The tournament is being played at Prairie View Golf Club, a Par-72.

This is the premier women's golf tournament at the NCAA Division II level.  13 of the 16 teams qualified for regionals last year with eight making it to nationals.  Seven of the top 25 ranked teams are here including #1 Dallas Baptist (National Champs) and #2 Lynn (3rd at nationals).

Lynn shot 301-288 to finish at +13 and lead #25 Central Missouri by two strokes.  Rounding out the top five are #5 Findlay (3rd – 303-290 - +17), St. Mary's (Texas) (4th – 299-296 - +19) and #8 Indianapolis (5th – 302-295 - +21).

The Falcons shot 303-304 and are in seventh place at +31.  UTPB is ahead of four teams that qualified for nationals last year.  It's a strong showing considering four of the five players are new this season.

Individually, Olivia Stoll of Grand Valley State (69-72) is at three under and leads by one stroke over Mary Kelly Mulcahy (Findlay).

Junior Gabriela Maldonado is tied for 14th at +4 (75-73).  She is tied for third in the tournament with 26 pars.

Sophomore Arnie Taguines is tied for 25th at +8 (73-79).  She is one of two players who lead the tournament with 27 pars.

Junior Ainhoa Gurruchaga is tied for 28th at +9 (76-77).

Freshman Katrin Davidsdottir is tied for 47th at +14.  She had a huge improvement in the second round shooting a 75.  That was eight strokes better than her first-round score.

Freshman Amanda Davidsson is tied for 56th at +16 (78-81).

UT Permian Basin remains in Carmel, Tuesday, Sept. 12 to close out the tournament.
