ABILENE, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's cross country team opened the season at the Big Country Festival.  The Falcons, who ran a 5K, scored 161 points to finish 7^th.

West Texas A&M placed four in the top six to score 26 points to win by 30 points over Texas A&M Commerce.  Rounding out the top five was Mary Hardin-Baylor (3^rd – 78 points), McMurry (4^th - 94 points) and Hardin Simmons (5^th - 112 points).

For UTPB, the top runner was senior Alauna Stackhouse who ran 22:31.60 to place 20^th.  Rounding out the squad was sophomore Kayla Cepeda (30^th – 23:19.90), senior Miranda Hernandez (34^th – 24:39.30), sophomore Yanitza Olivares (35^th – 24:50.10) and junior Odalis Lujan (42^nd – 32:00.50).

UT Permian Basin will compete at the Mustang Derby, Thursday, September 7 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
