ODESSA, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's tennis program added one of the state's top players on Friday, officially signing Mattea Bowe from San Antonio, Texas. The three-star prospect is the highest-rated recruit in program history (men's or women's).
Bowe, who has signed a national letter of intent with the Falcons, has seen major success at the high-school level, winning UIL district and regional competitions before placing third in doubles at the UIL 6A State Championships for James Madison High School. She is the 28
th ranked player in Texas according to tennisrecruiting.com.
The incoming freshman is a USTA Texas Super Champ level player who currently holds a 7.4+ Universal Tennis rating. Bowe will be majoring in Nursing at UTPB.
Head Coach Alex Hunt on Bowe:
"I've had the pleasure of knowing Mattea for a while now. I had the chance to see her compete at an extremely high level at the USTA Texas Grand Slam over the Summer of 2022. Her competitiveness and passion for tennis was something that stood out to me in that tournament of over 600 players. Mattea utilizes a very consistent, yet crafty, playstyle to outsmart a lot of her opponents. Watching her play and analyzing her results over the past year or so, I am confident she'll come into this high level of NCAA Division II women's tennis and do very well. I'm really excited to welcome her to the team starting in the Fall of 2023."
