Women's Tennis Earns Crucial LSC Win in Final Road Contest

4/16/2022 9:42:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin Women's Tennis put their Lone Star Conference postseason fate in their own hands on Saturday with a 5-2 win over UA Fort Smith.  Heading into the contest the Falcons trailed the Lions for the final spot in the conference playoffs by a game.  Now the Falcons hold the final playoff spot with the tiebreaker with one match to go, with a loss the Falcons would have been eliminated from postseason contention.

The Falcons got out to a great start in their final road contest of the season with a sweep of the doubles point.  The Lions fought back in singles play, with a pair of wins, but victories by Lore Mewis, Lisa Guitton, Krystal Smith, and Brooke Runyan pushed the team to a 5-2 victory.

On the men's side the Falcons fell behind early 3-0.  Wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 lines by Enrique Sanchez and Patryk Kosinski brought the Falcons right back in it.  Timon Kohler came up just short in the No. 4 match in a three-set thriller as the Lions went on to take it 5-2.

One match remains in the regular season for the Falcons.  Next Friday they'll take on Western New Mexico at Bush Tennis Center in Midland starting at 10 AM.  Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
