Nwodo Secures First Career Double-Double

Ogechi Nwodo was all over the floor for UT Permian Basin against Angelo State on Tuesday night. Nwodo collected the first double-double of her career in the third quarter as she only played 26 minutes on the floor. She bucketed 17 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and grabbed 14 boards including six on the offensive side.

Nwodo led the game off with the first basket of the day 29 seconds in. A run by the Rambelles gave them a cushion during the beginning of the first quarter, but the Falcons came back fighting. They ended the quarter on a 7-3 run including a three-pointer from Holly Hemmeline to end the first quarter down by three.

The Falcons would take the momentum into the beginning of the second quarter as they started with a 6-2 run to take the lead on an Avalon Munoz layup 23-22 with 7:45 left in the second quarter.

Nwodo started the third quarter with a layup and shortly after Hemmeline hit her third shot from beyond the arc. After a couple baskets by the Rambelles the Falcon offense got going again. Rory Carter hit from three-point land, Morgan Helgesen scored off a Rambelle turnover, and Nwodo made a layup. She would close out the quarter with a layup as the Falcons headed into the fourth quarter.

Back-to-back layups from Nwodo and Kamari Portalis gave the Falcons life in the fourth. The Falcons went on an 8-0 run starting at the 4:13 mark. Hemmeline scored five of the eight points to close out the run as the Falcons trailed by six with 2:23 to go, but that's as close as they would get as Angelo State took the 71-55 win.

Hemmeline scored 14 points while shooting 4-for-11 from beyond the arc. Munoz distributed the ball very well as she collected nine assists and Alexus Wykoff grabbed eight boards.

The Falcons next game will be in Silver City, NM as they look to bounce back against Western New Mexico. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the Falcons all season long.
