Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Falcons Connect Early and Often from Deep Against No. 8 LCU

UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball had it going from long range Saturday afternoon, shooting .450 percent their highest of the season from three against No. 8 Lubbock Christian.  Holly Hemmeline led the way knocking down four as five Falcons connected from beyond the arc.  Hemmeline and Avalon Munoz paced the offense with 12 points each in the effort against the defending national champions.  Their nine made three-pointers tied a season high.

Both offenses clicked early.  Kamari Portalis opened the action with a lay-up just seconds into the game.  The Lady Chaps were hot early from three-point land before Morgan Helgesen answered with one of her own.  Threes by Ally Haman and Hemmeline, hers just before the buzzer, kept the Falcons within striking distance at the end of the quarter.

Once again it was the long ball that kept the Falcons close.  Hemmeline knocked down another three and was followed by Portalis to keep the deficit in single digits.  The Lady Chap offense continued to put pressure on the Falcons who wouldn't go away.  After a five-point run by Alexus Wykoff, Hemmeline closed the half with a three that sent the teams into the locker rooms 40-33.

A lay-up by Wykoff cut the deficit to just five early in the third quarter but that's as close as the Falcons would get in the upset attempt.  The Lady Chaps responded with a 13-0 run while shooting over 50 percent from the field in the second half for the 83-61 final.

Wykoff finished with 11 points and was 5-of-7 from the free throw line.  Ogechi Nwodo was a force in the paint with nine points and a game-high seven rebounds.  The Falcons won the battle on the boards 28-26.
