Roberts Finds Paydirt Three Times as Falcons Extend Win Streak to 7

UT Permian Basin Football continues to roll picking up their seventh straight victory overall.  Quarterback Clayton Roberts found the end zone three times, twice through the air and once on the ground with a long touchdown run, as the Falcons went on the road and beat Southwest Baptist 24-16.  Kobe Robinson set a career-high in receiving yards with 123 while the defense held the Bearcats to just 50 yards on the ground.

The Falcons struck on their first drive of the season.  The team methodically moved down the field before facing a fourth down from the 21.  Clayton Roberts found Jordan Smart over the middle on a post route for the first touchdown of the season and Smart's first of his collegiate career.  Right after the touchdown, the game was delayed nearly 90 minutes due to weather.

Both offenses stalled and struggled to gain momentum beyond flipping field position.  The Falcons found a crack in the Bearcat defense at the end of the half.  Roberts found Kobe Robinson on a slant over the middle and allowed the dangerous Robinson to find space for a 58-yard gain.  On the next play from scrimmage, Roberts found a wide-open MJ Link on a wheel route for the 14-0 halftime lead.

Momentum shifted in the second half after an errant Falcon snap led to a safety.  The Bearcats scored on the ensuing drive to make it 14-9.  The offense responded with a long drive extended by some clutch plays from unlikely sources.  Facing a fourth down near midfield, the Falcons ran a fake punt to Brock Johnson who barreled his way to a first down.  Later in the drive facing third-and-seven, Roberts found Clyde Bellow for the 15-yard gain.  The Falcons ended up settling for a 23-yard field goal by Carson Roberts extending the lead to 17-9.

Momentum remained up for grabs after the Bearcats blocked a field goal, but the Falcons responded in a big way.  Clayton Roberts eluded a sack and broke down the right sideline for a 45-yard touchdown run.  On the ensuing drive, Jaques Tyler made a spectacular tip and interception to completely take all momentum.

Roberts finished with 244 yards through the air and 41 on the ground.  Robinson picked up his 123 yards on seven receptions.  Making his Falcon debut, Nate Tilford rushed for 97 yards as the Falcons finished with 170 as a team.

On the defensive side of the ball, Miquon Mayes, Donta Stuart, and Jaques Tyler had six tackles each.  The Falcons had four sacks on the day with La'Daidreain Glasker, Derrian Forge, Dominique Varela, and Joseph Williams bringing down the quarterback.

The Falcons welcome West Texas A&M to Ratliff Stadium next Saturday with kick-off slated for 6 PM presented by First Basin Credit Union.  Download the UTPB Athletics App for the latest news and updates on your favorite Falcon teams.
