Vrucan Advances to Final Day of ITA Invitational, Runyan Reaches Flight Final

Coming into the season UT Permian Basin Women's Tennis expected to be young, but the freshmen had a strong start to their collegiate careers.  Teodora Vrucan advanced to the semifinals of her flight, to be played tomorrow, while Brooke Runyan made a run to the finals of her flight.
 
Vrucan dropped her first match of the event to No. 7 seed Tanvikhaa Saravanan but then tore through the consolation bracket in Flight A.  To get there Vrucan beat a trio of Lone Star Conference opponents, Ayda Guler of Angelo State, Elena Munoz of St. Mary's, and No. 11 Julia Tozzi of Western New Mexico.  She will face off with Alexandra Vishnevskaya from Angelo State in the semifinals. 
 
Runyan started Flight B round robin play strong with back-to-back victories before bracket play.  In bracket play, the freshman won a tightly contested match after dropping the opening set to advance to the finals.  Her run ended there in two sets. 
 
In Flight A, Krystal Smith won her first match before falling to Taylor Leslie the No. 4 seed.  Leslie will play in the finals tomorrow of the bracket.  In Flight B, Mariah Briones picked up a win over Massiel Paredes of Western New Mexico.
