Guitton and Mewis Push Division I Opponent to the Brink

2/7/2021 6:24:00 PM

Box Score Lisa Guitton and Lore Mewis, playing as the UT Permian Basin Women's Tennis first doubles, pushed the number one pairing from Division I Abilene Christian to nearly a draw.  The duo held serve trailing 4-3 when the match was called because the other doubles matches had been decided.

Guitton battled early as No. 2 singles but was forced to retire due to injury.  Mewis and Maria Briones each took three points in the singles portion of the match.

"That was the best doubles match that Lore and Lisa had played this year," said Head Coach Stan Anderson.  "It's unfortunate that they did not get to finish it. The wind started to pick up as the singles play started and the team was very competitive across the board. Lisa Guitton was in a tight, hard-fought match at the number-two line before having to retire because of an injury. Lisa is the strongest player on our team and when she went down with an injury it really took away all of our energy and momentum. Abilene Christian has an outstanding team, and we had a hard time getting going in the second set of our matches. We will work to build on what we were doing in the first sets of our singles matches this week as we prepare for another Division I team in Tarleton State this Friday."
