Alexus Wykoff and
Holly Hemmeline both had standout games against one of the best teams in the Lone Star Conference on Saturday in Laredo. Wykoff led the charge with 14 points with Hemmeline right behind her as she finished with 13 points. Wykoff also tied for the lead in rebounds for the Falcons with four.
The Falcons started off slow out of the gate as Texas A&M International started with a 9-2 run. The Falcons climbed back to narrow the deficit to 11-9 with 1:22 to go in the first quarter. The Falcons scored the last basket of the quarter to trail 14-11.
In the second quarter the Falcons found their rhythm midway though the quarter. Hemmeline buried a three and a jumper for back-to-back scores for the Falcons to climb back and make it a four-point game. It was then a one-point game after Wykoff scored on a layup in the paint and another Hemmeline three. The Dustdevils collected a 6-0 run as they headed into the half up 29-22.
Wykoff scored six of her 14 points in the third quarter with four of those six points came at the charity stripe.
To start the fourth quarter the Falcons went on a 12-0 run after a couple of made baskets from the Dustdevils to make it a seven-point game. That was the closest the Falcons could get as they fell 65-56.
Avalon Munoz added seven assists to lead both teams. Wykoff and
Alexus Quaadman had four rebounds each to lead the team.
