UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball has been a force this season on defense, forcing 119 through the first five games of the season. On Saturday that trend continued as they forced Regis to cough it up 20 times to close their Colorado road trip.
Rory Carter,
Alexus Quaadman, and Kamari Portales each had three of the teams 13 steals on the afternoon.
Both offenses struggled to get going in the first quarter as they combined for just seven points by the first media timeout. After the Rangers started to gain momentum, Carter buried a three and
Morgan Helgesen followed with a jumper to make it a one-point game. That was the most momentum either side could generate in the first quarter as the Rangers took a 13-9 lead after 10 minutes.
The Rangers came out in the second quarter with a 6-2 run before Carter drained another three. That cut the deficit to five, but the Rangers closed strong and took a 40-27 lead into the half. The Falcon offense came to life in the third quarter and opened with a 6-0 run. That was as close as they would get as the Rangers shot over 50 percent in the second half for the 82-56 final.
Avalon Munoz led the offense with 10 points on the afternoon to go along with five rebounds. Portalis added nine points with five boards. The Falcons have forced at least 20 turnovers in a game four times this season.
The Falcons return to Texas to head to the coast to face Texas A&M – Kingsville on Thursday. Download the UTPB Athletics App to follow the team all season long.
