Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wykoff Scores 20 as Falcon Offense Heats Up

Alexus Wykoff had her best game in the orange and white as UT Permian Women's Basketball opened play in the Seawolf Hoops Classic hosted by Alaska – Anchorage.  Wykoff only missed one shot from the field against Alaska – Fairbanks on Friday night.

Wykoff led all players with 20 points as she continues to give opponents trouble in the paint. She also collected seven rebounds which were the second most on the team with Alexus Quaadman getting eight.

The offense was rolling for both teams in the first quarter. Ally Haman got the Falcons on the board to break up a 5-0 run by Fairbanks. The Nanooks were able to get an eight-point lead on the Falcons with 3:30 to go in the first quarter, but the Falcons gathered an 11-2 run to go ahead 24-23 at the end of the period.

The Nanooks started with a 7-0 run after the break as Wykoff started the scoring for the Falcons with a layup. A pair of layups by Morgan Helgesen and Avalon Munoz tied the game 30-30. Another run by the Nanooks gave them a little bit of cushion as they went into the half up 43-36.

The third quarter was all Falcons. Late in the third quarter the Falcons took their biggest lead of the night, as Quaadman fueled a 16-0 run to give them a 64-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The lead wasn't enough as the Nanooks came back on another big run to start the quarter to win the game 71-69.

Wykoff went 7-of-8 in the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe to give her a game high 20 points. Munoz collected 12 points with seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Quaadman had 10 points with a team high eight rebounds and two blocks.
