Falcon Secondary Slows Down Commerce’s Aerial Attack

UT Permian Basin's secondary shined on Saturday and kept the Texas A&M – Commerce passing attack in check.  The defense held the Lions to just 138 yards in the air and picked off Lone Star Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Miklo Smalls.

The was a defensive struggle early with neither side able to score through the opening quarter.  The Lions found the end zone first early in the second quarter to take the lead.  Turnovers gave the Lions a short field that they capitalized on as the Falcon offense couldn't get going for the 41-0 final.

The secondary kept Smalls in check, as he finished 12-of-23 for 138 yards and ran for 24.  Nygel King intercepted a pass in the third quarter to go along with a pair of tackles.  Derrian Forge led the defense with nine tackles while Hayden Kelly added seven.  Jaques Tyler continued his stellar season with two more pass break ups.  Kobe Robinson led the offense with 83 all purpose yards and four catches.

The Falcons return to Ratliff Stadium for their final home game of the season against Texas A&M – Kingsville.  Before the game the Falcons will honor their graduating seniors.  Download the UTPB Athletics App for the latest news on your favorite Falcon teams.
