2020 Football Schedule Features First Thursday Night Home Game, Two DI Games

3/9/2020 3:36:00 PM

Falcon Football has released their 2020 schedule which will feature six home games and a pair of games against Division I opponents.

For the first time ever, the Falcons will play under the lights on Thursday.  They open the season on September 3 against Wayland Baptist, a rematch of last year's season opener.  The Falcons then hit the road for back to back games.  They'll take on West Texas A&M on September 12 in the team's Lone Star Conference opener up in Canyon.  It will be the home opener for the Buffs and the first time the Falcons will travel to Buffalo Stadium.  They then travel to face a familiar foe in Tarleton on September 19.  That game will be the Texans home opener, and their first home game as a member of Division I.

The Falcons return home for back to back weeks to end September and start October.  They'll face Western New Mexico on September 26 at Ratliff Stadium before facing Simon Fraser for the first time in program history.  That game is a part of an alliance between the Lone Star Conference and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  The next week the Falcons hit the road for another Division I opponent, this time heading to Houston to play Texas Southern.  The last time these teams met, the Falcons nearly pulled off the win over the Division I foe in a 26-16 thriller.

October 17 will be Homecoming up in Midland.  The Falcons will take on Angelo State at Grande Stadium.  A trip to Portales is next on the schedule, as the Falcons visit Eastern New Mexico on October 24.  Last season the Falcons came back from 14 points at half time to win 48-38, scoring 41 in the second half.  The Falcons return home to face the Lions of Texas A&M - Commerce on Halloween.  November starts with the final road trip of the season, a trip to face Texas A&M - Kingsville.  Last season's match-up was a record setting one for the Falcons, winning 70-14.  The game will forever be remembered for John O'Kelley's interception when he handed off the ball so senior Chris Hoad could score on Senior Day.

The Falcons once again conclude the season at home in 2020.  This time the Falcons will face Midwestern State to wrap-up the season at Ratliff Stadium on November 14.  The Falcons nearly upset the nationally-ranked Mustangs last year in Wichita Falls, a 14-8 defense struggle.
